Did you know that there are currently 2,000 Driller Offsider Vacancies?
In Collaboration with the Resources Industry Training Council, the Australian Training Management and The Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) the first round of Driller’s Offsider Employability Program commenced on 9th May 2022 with its final day on 19th May 2022.
The eight participants completed the course with Certifications in First Aid, CPR, Working at heights and 4WD off-road driving.
Participants expressed they were keen to commence employment and were looking forward to a career in Drilling.
One participant said, “I am very keen to get out and work. Although it was great getting the theory side of the role, I am looking forward to getting the practical experience under my belt”. – Shane
“The program was at the perfect pace, the way it was structured, and the content has been great, I particularly liked the 4WD training” – Callum
“The government needs to do more of these programs to help with the ongoing skill shortages” – Steve
The final day of the program was an induction into FIFO work, working in the drilling industry and what a day in the life of a Driller Offsider looked like. The facilitator for the day was John Mc Avan who had over 20 years’ experience in drilling and facilitated training programs for the Australian Drilling Industry Association. John was able to draw on his experience, giving participants a great insight into the occupation of Driller Offsider including oversea opportunities.
At the completion of the program, all participants have been matched to a drilling company for an interview. Which is a great outcome considering the skills shortages here in Western Australia.
The Department of Training and Workforce Development are now sourcing candidates for the next program to begin very soon! If you know anyone interested in being involved in the program, click on this link for more information: lnkd.in/gyQ3AM-8
